India thrash UAE 5-0 to register second consecutive win in Asia Mixed Team Badminton

India thrashed United Arab Emirates 5-0 to register their second consecutive win and book a place in the quarterfinals of the Asia Mixed Team Badminton Championships in Dubai on Wednesday. Star players PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy were rested as they helped India thrash Kazakhstan 5-0 in their opening match on Tuesday. Aakarshi Kashyap and Lakshya Sen made it to the women’s and men’s singles respectively on Wednesday.

Sen was the first to open the proceedings for India and easily defeated Dev Vishnu 21-16 21-12 in 31 minutes.

Aakarshi then defeated Madhumita Sundarapandian 21-6, 21-7 in just 26 minutes to give India a 2-0 lead.

The men’s doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Chirag Shetty took a 21-15 21-14 3-0 lead over Dev Ayyappan and Dhiren Ayyappan.

The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam as well as the mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto then completed the formalities with easy victories over their respective opponents.

Ashwini and Shikha beat UAE pair of Sanika Dhawan and Akanksha Raj 21-7 21-4 while Ishaan and Tanisha beat Latish Bharat and Rajesh Nayonika 21-13 21-8.

India will take on Malaysia in their last Group B match on Thursday, which will be their toughest encounter.

The top two teams from each of the four groups of four teams will qualify for the quarter-finals.
