Cheteshwar Pujara looked in sublime form and caught Steve Smith at leg slip to end his innings on the second day of the third Test between India and Australia in Indore on Thursday. Pujara looked confident as he scored 59 and it looked like the experienced batsman would be able to give India a decent lead against Australia. However, Lyon pitched the ball outside leg stump and in an attempt to guide it towards fine leg, Pujara fired it straight towards Smith. The Australian skipper started off slowly but dived almost full length towards the end to take a perfect catch. It was the 13th time that Pujara had been dismissed by Lyon in Test cricket – the most among Indian top-order batsmen.

Lyon took eight wickets as India were bundled out for 163 in 60.3 overs in the second innings.

The hosts are facing a big defeat as Steve Smith’s men have been given a target of just 76 runs to win the Test and book a place in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC).

Lyon spun a net around India’s batsmen, returning figures of 23.3-1-64-8.

Cheteshwar Pujara batted carefully but fell after scoring 59 runs. The veteran batsman’s departure, with Smith taking a blunder at leg slip off Lyon’s bowling, almost ended India’s resistance.

Umesh Yadav lasted just two balls, caught by Cameron Green in the deep for a duck, as India’s batting went down without a whimper.

India are leading the series 2-0 with wins in Nagpur and New Delhi.
