India vs England: How fans reacted to Michael Vaughan’s “Rishabh Pant doing a Johnny B” tweet

Rishabh Pant put India in the driver’s seat with a stunning knock of 146 runs in just 111 balls on the first day of the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston. Pant’s scintillating attack on the England bowlers helped India recover at 98 for five at a time. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman was receiving accolades from across the globe with his attacking style being widely praised. Former England captain Michael Vaughan also praised Pant but at the same time, managed to disappoint some fans by comparing his innings to Jonny Bairstow.

Vaughan tweeted, “Great to see.. @RishabhPant17 doing a Johnny B.”

The Englishman was referring to Jonny Bairstow’s stellar performance with the bat in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand, which England won 3-0.

During the second Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge, Bairstow scored 136 off 92 balls to guide the hosts to a five-wicket haul as they chased down 299 for victory.

He then scored 162 runs in 157 balls in 95 balls in the next Test at Headingley.

The fans, however, reminded Vaughan that Pant has been batting the same way he had done at Edgbaston for quite some time now.

Pant’s scintillating counter-century on Friday helped India reach 338 for seven at stumps on day one.

The wicket-keeper shared a 222-run partnership with fellow left-hander Ravindra Jadeja and hit 19 fours and four sixes with an unbeaten 83 at the stumps.
