India are scheduled to take on South Africa in the second T20I of the three-match series at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday but rain could disrupt proceedings in Assam. According to Accuweather, Guwahati is likely to receive three hours of rain with some heavy thunderstorms. Tickets for the match at Barsapara Stadium have been sold out but fans are likely to be disappointed as the match is unlikely to take place. The last international match at the stadium was also canceled due to rain.

Meanwhile, the organizers said that they have made all arrangements to minimize the loss of time in the event of rain.

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has imported two “extremely lightweight” pitch covers from the US. It already has about 20 covers at its disposal.

“These imported covers ensure that water or moisture does not seep into the pitch,” said ACA secretary Devjit Saikia.

The last international match was the India-Sri Lanka T20 match on January 5, 2020, at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, which was canceled due to incessant rain.

India recently played a match in Nagpur which was cut short due to rain. India defeated Australia in a match of eight overs.

India will go into the match with a 1-0 lead in the series, and will try to settle things in Guwahati.

The third and final match of the series will be played in Indore on Tuesday.
