3rd Test: Kagiso Rabada celebrates the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane on day 3.© AFP
Ajinkya Rahane’s poor form continued on the third day of the third Test between India and South Africa in Cape Town. The batsman was dismissed after registering just one run off nine balls, adding to India’s batting woes in the ongoing three-match series. Before Rahane was dismissed, the visitors also cheaply lost the wickets of KL Rahul (10), Mayank Agarwal (7) and Cheteshwar Pujara (9), adding more pressure to the middle order. In the 19th over, Rahane bowled Kagiso Rabada to the wicketkeeper, who jumped high to see the ball bounce off his glove. But Dean Elgar was cautious enough to catch the rebound at first slip. Rahane has come under a lot of criticism recently and was dismissed off 12 balls in the first innings. He could only score nine runs.
Meanwhile, in the first innings of the second Test, he lost his wicket to a golden duck.
With a strong partnership of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, India have staged a fight on the third day and are extending their lead.
Pant has already scored a half-century and his target will be to build pressure on the home team bowlers along with Kohli.
By lunch, India were leading by 143 runs at 130 for four.
Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jensen have been in good form for South Africa and have taken two dismissals each.
