India vs West Indies, 1st ODI: Nicholas Pooran’s straight-hit run by Shubman Gill. watch

Right-handed batsman Shubman Gill looked in fine form as he completed his fifty in the first ODI against West Indies. The 22-year-old looked in fine form and the West Indies bowlers had no answer to stop him. However, Gill’s innings ended prematurely after being found short on the non-striker’s end, and Windies captain Nicholas Pooran hit a straight, and so the right-hander had to walk back for 64.

Gill was run out in the 18th over of the innings and the incident happened on the fourth ball of the over. Alzarri Joseph delivers a back off length delivery and Gill runs for a run. However, a sluggish effort from the batsman took him out of his crease.

Gill and Dhawan shared a 119-run partnership for the first wicket. While the right-handed batsman scored 64 runs, Dhawan too missed his century as he was dismissed for 97.

India scored a total of 308 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs.

In reply, West Indies suffered a three-run defeat as Mohammad Siraj’s brilliant last over gave India a 1-0 lead in the series.

West Indies got off to a poor start by losing the opening wicket of Shai Hope.

However, Kyle Meyers and Shamrah Brooks put on 117 runs for the second wicket to keep their ship steady.

Meyers scored a brilliant 74 while Brooks scored 46. Both were dismissed early by Shardul Thakur.

Brandon King also completed his half-century, and kept the West Indies in the chase. However, Yuzvendra Chahal made a timely breakthrough to make the task difficult for the hosts.

Akil Hossein and Romario Shepherd played unbeaten cameos of 32 and 39 respectively, but Siraj kept his composure in the final game to take India to the finishing line.
