Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen on Thursday advanced to the men’s singles quarterfinals of the Indonesia Masters 2023 BWF Super 500 tournament in Jakarta. Seventh seed Lakshya Sen made a comeback to win his round-of-16 match 19-21, 21-8, 21-17 against world number 28 Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia in the latest Badminton rankings. The two players were evenly matched in the opening exchanges and were tied at 13-all at one point in the first game. However, the Malaysian shuttler took a break and took the lead.

Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen came back strongly and completely dominated the second game to tie the match. The final match was very close, and the Indian shuttler needed to win the last three straight points to seal her place in the quarterfinals.

India’s Saina Nehwal later crashed out of the women’s singles competition after losing 15-21, 7-21 to Yu Han of China.

In women’s singles, eighth seed Yu Han set the tempo of the match from the start, making it impossible for the Indian Olympian to gain a foothold in the contest.

Later on the same day, the Round of 16 women’s doubles match will take place with Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa.
