Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are eyeing a win to boost their playoff hopes over bottom-ranked Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday. The Eoin Morgan-led side have 10 points from 12 matches and would like to win two of the remaining two matches to make it to the playoffs. In their last game against Punjab Kings, KKR suffered a five-wicket defeat despite another impressive performance from all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer.
KKR got off to a good start with the bat, buoyed by Iyer’s 67 against Punjab, but failed to pick up the pace due to middle-order struggles.
In reply, KL Rahul’s 67 runs helped Punjab win by five wickets. Varun Chakraborty gave figures of 2/24 for KKR and will be hoping for another good performance on Sunday.
For SRH, playoff hopes are long over. The Kane Williamson-led side have won just two of their 11 matches this season, while the other nine have suffered losses.
In their last match, SRH lost to table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets.
SRH struggled with the bat and could only manage 134/7 batting first. In reply, CSK chased down the target with six wickets remaining despite a disciplined performance from the SRH bowlers.
SRH’s goal at this stage will be to try to avoid the wooden spoon to win all three of their remaining games.
However, the recent performances will not inspire much hope among SRH fans and the team will have to make significant improvements if the campaign is to end on a positive note.
