IPL 2021, RCB vs KKR: Glenn Maxwell blasts social media for “spreading abuse” for “terrible people” after RCB exit

Royal Challengers Bangalore put up a formidable fight in the Eliminator but it was not enough as Kolkata Knight Riders won by four wickets in Sharjah with two balls to spare. The defeat meant that RCB were knocked out of the competition with Virat Kohli captaining the team for the last time. KKR will face Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2 with the winner of the match against Chennai Super Kings in the final. And while RCB’s defeat would have been heartbreaking, their performance in both the phases of the tournament was commendable. Glenn Maxwell was one of the star performers for the franchise in the UAE leg but his tournament ended on a sour note, with the Australian star taking to social media to troll him for “spreading abuse”.

Unhappy with the treatment of one of his teammates after RCB’s loss, Maxwell thanked the “real fans” but rebuked those “abusers”.

“Great season of RCB, unfortunately we fell short of where we thought we should be. An amazing season doesn’t take away from it!! Some of the garbage floating around on social media is absolutely disgusting! We are the humans that Maxwell is.” wrote in his Twitter post, “Giving my best every day. Maybe instead of abusing try to be a nice person…”.

“Thanks to the real fans who shared the love and admiration for the players who gave their all! Unfortunately there are some terrible people out there who make social media a terrible place. This is unacceptable!!!! Please don’t be like that! Them!!!” she added.

In another tweet Maxwell posted: “If you comment on any of my friends/friends on social media with negative/abusive nonsense, you will be blocked by everyone. What’s the point of being a terrible person? Any excuse Not there !! !

Maxwell’s compatriot at RCB, Dan Christian, was not having the best of days in office. He scored nine runs in 8 balls and conceded 29 runs in 1.4 overs.

After the match, Christian posted a note on his Instagram stories saying that his teammate’s Instagram post has been targeted by trolls.

The all-rounder wrote, “Look at the comment section of my partner’s Instagram post. I didn’t have a good game tonight, but that’s the game. However, please let him out of it.”

Monday was also the last time that Virat Kohli had captained RCB and had earlier revealed that this would be his last season as captain for the franchise.
