The equation for Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday is pretty straightforward: bat first and win the playoffs at least. 171 runs to qualify for. If Mumbai bats for the second time, their playoff hopes will be over even before the first ball is bowled. Kolkata Knight Riders’ comprehensive 86-run win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) means that MI’s playoff chances in the last 24 hours have further eroded. KKR have 14 points after the league campaign and their Net Run Rate (NRR) is +0.587.

If Mumbai win their last league match on Friday, they will level KKR’s total with 14 points. However, improving KKR’s NRR is a big challenge.

MI’s current NRR is -0.048, which is why they face an almost impossible challenge of making the playoffs.

In their last game against RR, MI took an easy eight-wicket win after restricting their opponents to a total of 90/9 in 20 overs.

Nathan Counter-Nile and Jimmy Neesham finished with figures of 4/14 and 3/12, respectively, as RR struggled. Ishan Kishan also returned to form with an unbeaten half-century as MI kept their playoff hopes alive.

SRH, on the other hand, defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by four runs in their last game in a thrilling encounter.

Kane Williamson’s team, however, will end up at the bottom of the standings no matter what, in their last league game against MI.

However, SRH will be hoping to end the campaign on a positive note with a win over MI.
