Former Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) player, Virender Sehwag recalled an infamous incident related to the ‘Spirit of the Game’ in which spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, MS Dhoni and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, MS Dhoni and Glenn Maxwell was involved. Indian Premier League (IPL). Speaking to Cricbuzz.com, Sehwag recalled how Ashwin had dismissed the batsman after Maxwell was dismissed while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Sehwag, who was at the other end of the crease, revealed that Dhoni was not impressed by the move and even scolded the bowler for it.
Sehwag said, “When I was playing for Punjab, (Ravichandran) Ashwin got Maxwell out and then he picked up some dust and blew it on him. I didn’t like it. But I never came out and went public. About whether what he did was wrong or against the ‘spirit of the game’, however MS Dhoni got angry and scolded him.
Sehwag looked back and said that if a player had gone on social media or talked to the media about it, what a big incident this incident could have turned into.
“It was Ashwin’s wish. And if a player spoke about the post-match incident in the media or on social media it would have become a big deal too. It is the players’ responsibility – whatever happens on the field. To come out. should not be allowed,” Sehwag said.
Sehwag’s thoughts come with regard to the latest case of ‘spirit of cricket’ involving Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Eoin Morgan and Ashwin once again.
Ashwin took to Twitter on Thursday to give his opinion on the controversy with KKR captain Eoin Morgan.
The incident has divided the cricket fraternity, with many favoring Ashwin while others backing Morgan. This happened during DC’s match against KKR when Morgan went on to take an extra run on Ashwin when the ball hit DC skipper Rishabh Pant.
