Glenn Phillips led New Zealand to a 3-0 Twenty20 series whitewash with a six-wicket win at the Stormont ground in Belfast on Friday. Daryl Mitchell played a useful knock of 48 runs in 32 balls, before James Neesham scored 23 runs in just six balls. Phillips scored an unbeaten 56 as New Zealand chased down the target of 175 with one over left.

When Mitchell was caught and bowled by Josh Little, the Blackcaps were faltering at 147-4 with three overs to spare.

But Phillips, who also scored a match-winning half-century in the series opener, proved to be a thorn in Ireland’s favor once again, before Neesham ensured victory.

Experienced opener Paul Stirling had 40 runs in Ireland’s 174-6, with the hosts hitting 37 off 15 balls from Mark Adair and 19 off eight by Curtis Camper.

Adair and Camper’s unbeaten 58 off 23 balls gave Ireland hope of victory, having suffered white-ball defeats to both India and New Zealand this season.

But instead they suffered another defeat to New Zealand, after a 3–0 upset in the previous One Day International series.
