Bollywood actress duo Kriti Sanon and Kiara Advani graced the opening ceremony of the Women’s Premier League with star singer AP Dhillon. Kiara opened the show with a performance on her hit songs while Kriti enthralled everyone with a heart-warming performance on ‘Chak De India’. The crowd was applauding both the actresses as they danced to all their major hits. AP Dhillon has already created a lot of buzz on social media with his interactions with cricketers Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues and he did not disappoint with his show.

History will be created on Saturday as the Women’s Premier League gets underway with some of the finest players making their debut in franchise cricket in India. The league will begin with a blockbuster clash between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium. There will be a total of 20 league matches and two playoff matches and these will be played over 23 days.

During the 22-game season, each of the five teams will face each other twice before two semifinals determine the top two teams for the March 27 championship game.

In its inaugural edition, five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriors – shelled out some of the best talent in the international and domestic circuit. India’s Smriti Mandhana was the top buy as she was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.40 crore.
Sunday will be the first double-header day of the WPL, where Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Delhi Capitals at CCI’s Brabourne Stadium. UP Warriors will play their first match of the league against Gujarat Giants at DY Patil Stadium in the evening.
There will be a total of 11 matches at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium.
The final match of the league stage will be played between UP Warriors and Delhi Capitals on March 21 at the Brabourne Stadium. The Eliminator will be played on March 24 at the DY Patil Stadium.
The final of the Women’s Premier League 2023 will be played at the Brabourne Stadium on 26 March.
Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.80 crore and she was made the captain of the team.
Captained by champion Australian batsman Beth Mooney, the Gujarat Giants include Indian stars Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana – the team’s vice-captain – and veteran Sushma Verma.
UP Warriors left no stone unturned in their bid to make a successful debut in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League and named the charismatic Alyssa Healy as their captain.
