The Indian cricket team is facing quite a problem when it comes to young talent. Both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul missed the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand but both Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill impressed everyone with their performances. Rajat Patidar was part of the team, but he did not get any chance to make a mark. When asked about the possibility of their inclusion, skipper Rohit Sharma said that the team is currently following the planning done before the World Cup and as a result, some players may miss out on some opportunities.
Rohit said after the third ODI against New Zealand, ‘If we get a place for him, we will play him.’ “Right now there is Kohli at No.3, Ishan Kishan at No.4 – he got out of the last series after scoring a double hundred. There is Suryakumar Yadav at No.5, the whole world knows what he is doing and then there is Hardik Pandya at No.6. We want everyone to play but we can’t do that unless we find space for them.
There were reports that Patidar might make his debut in Indore considering it as his home ground but Rohit said the team will take a call keeping in mind future tournaments.
“I know maybe we could have played him in Indore. Ishaan will also say in Ranchi, let me play, I am from Ranchi. But it doesn’t work like that, we go according to some plans. Everyone will get a chance. That’s what we have told the boys, we will give you a chance to play whenever, but that chance should come, there are a lot of boys waiting in line,” Rohit said.
