In a move that has cheered the first-class cricketers, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has agreed to in-principle contract for them. A senior MCA official said, “This decision was taken in the recent Apex Council meeting and it will be similar to that of BCCI. The Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) of the association will work on the modalities.

MCA CIC currently has Nilesh Kulkarni, Jatin Paranjpe and Vinod Kambli as members.

The BCCI has a central contract system for its men and women cricketers and they are paid an annual amount based on their grades.

“The MCA will work out the CIC modalities like for which grade and the amount to be given for each grade. Which players will have the contract will also be decided by the CIC and the selectors,” the official said.

Meanwhile, the association has approved a reward of Rs one crore for its Ranji Trophy team, which finished as runners-up, lost to Madhya Pradesh in the summit clash.

The Ranji Trophy team was led by flamboyant opener Prithvi Shaw.

The MCA will also give cash prizes to its Under-25 team which won the CK Nayudu Trophy and the Under-19 team which finished runner-up in the Cooch Behar Trophy.
