Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Douchet on Friday announced his retirement from international cricket after failing to qualify for the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. The 41-year-old played in the Netherlands’ last first round match against debutante Namibia, in which his team was knocked out of the tournament. He did not play in the Netherlands’ crucial match against Sri Lanka on Friday. “It has been a difficult finish to this tour, but it is a pleasure to be part of the efforts again. It has always been a privilege to represent the Netherlands,” Ten Douchet said in a statement from Cricket Netherlands (KNCB).

“The professionalism and dedication shown by this team and support staff is inspiring. I am grateful to the players, coaches and everyone involved in KNCB who allowed me to enjoy some of the stupendous heights of international cricket.”

The KNCB said Ten Deutsche played his last international cricket match and thanked him “for all he has done for the game in the Netherlands and abroad”.

Head coach Ryan Campbell said, “Dochet represented the hope of Dutch cricket. Sometimes words just don’t mean enough to sum up one’s career. It’s an honor to have him as a coach.

“His skill, knowledge of the game and calmness under pressure were excellent. In the end, he represented the hope of cricket to the Dutch, he gave us a belief that we could compete against anyone. He is greatly remembered as a player.” But hopefully Dutch cricket will not be defeated completely.”

Most notable in his international career are 119 runs against England and 106 against Ireland in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and 259 not out against Canada in 2006 ICC Intercontinental Cup.
