Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt on Friday said that the voice notes going viral on social media, indicating a rift within the senior men’s team, are a malicious attack on captain Kieron Pollard. According to CWI, voice notes were circulated on social media, and in some sections of regional broadcast media, suggesting that there is a rift within the West Indies senior men’s team.
“Contrary to the baseless statements containing baseless and mischievous allegations, CWI is satisfied that there is no difference of opinion between the captain of the team and any member of the West Indies team,” an official statement said.
CWI President Ricky Skerritt said: “I see this as a malicious attack on the credibility of the West Indies captain, designed to sow division within our team, having scored three very impressive tees against very strong opponents. Has recorded 20I performances, including two outstanding wins and one heroic comeback within a run of the win.”
“This blatant attempt by well-known mischief-makers to defame the captain and derail the team’s momentum in the ongoing T20I series should not be tolerated or encouraged,” he added.
West Indies led England 2-1 in the five-match T20I series at Kensington Oval in Barbados, with the fourth and fifth matches of the series to be played at the same ground on Saturday and Sunday.
West Indies will next take on India in three ODIs and three T20Is starting February 6.
