Not HCA’s fault in stampede-like situation during ticket sales: Mohammad Azharuddin

Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Mohammad Azharuddin on Friday said he was deeply disappointed by the stampede-like situation at the Gymkhana Ground here during the sale of tickets for the India-Australia T20 match on September 25, but said the association was at fault. He said, “Whatever happened, on behalf of our union we are taking care of his medical expenses. If we can do anything else, we will definitely do it. But, if you see what happened yesterday, then It is not the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s fault.”

When asked what steps are being taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future, he said that the tickets are sold by the ticket partner of the association which has done a good job and there is no confusion.

Referring to the allegations of tickets being sold in black, he said that the police and the association will take strict action if such an incident happens.

“I don’t understand how anyone can black out on our side when you sell tickets online,” he said, explaining the process involved.

He expressed hope that cricket lovers will enjoy the match to be held on September 25.


Four people suffered minor injuries when a stampede-like situation broke out on Thursday at the city’s Gymkhana ground, where thousands of cricket lovers gathered to buy tickets for the September 25 match.

Police had said that the injured were taken to the hospital and they are fine.
