Former India batsman Wasim Jaffer has said that South Africa are strong contenders for the upcoming T20 World Cup after their 2-1 win over England in the three-match T20I series. South Africa recently won the T20 series against England by a scoreline of 2-1. It was an excellent series as England took the lead in the first game but South Africa plotted a comeback and won the remaining two matches.

After South Africa’s win against England, former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer had strong views after the series.

He said in a tweet, “Congratulations @OfficialCSA on the series win, must say SA has been fantastic the way SA has come or been last year. They are definitely one of the hottest contenders for T20 WC now. #ENGvSA” match.

The spectacular performance of both the teams in all the three matches made the series entertaining for the fans. South African opener Reeza Hendrix scored half-centuries in all three matches of the series.

Riley Rossouw also performed brilliantly in two matches. The batsman was shying away from scoring just 6 runs of a century in the second match. Tristan Stubbs also shone in the first match but winning that match was not enough for South Africa.

Lungi Ngidi posted his career best performance in the first match of the series, taking a total of 5 wickets for just 39 runs.

Tabrez Shamsi also made remarkable performances in two wins for South Africa and took three and five wickets respectively in the last few matches for South Africa.

Aiden Markram also scored a half-century in the second match of the series and Andile Phehlukwayo also did well with the bowling all-around of the series.

South Africa will have a lot of positives from the series as beating England at their home ground is something not every team is capable of doing.

Earlier, South Africa also played a 5-match T20I series with India which resulted in a 2-2 draw as the last game of the series could not be completed.

In the 2021 World Cup, South Africa could not qualify after the Super 12 stage of the competition. They were tied with Australia for second place but were placed third in the rankings due to a low net run rate.
