Babar Azam scored a century against England in the second T20 match of the seven-match series at the National Stadium in Karachi on Thursday. Chasing a target of 200 runs in the game, Pakistan reached home comfortably as Babar led the innings with an unbeaten 110 off 66 balls. His innings included 11 fours and 5 sixes. After the match, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar praised Babar and said that he replicated India batsman Virat Kohli’s art of scoring a century in the chase.
With the latest three points, Babar also became the first Pakistani batsman to score two centuries in the T20I format. His first century in the format came against South Africa. It was a 122-run knock that came off 59 balls at Centurion in April last year.
Akhtar claimed that Babar is the best batsman in the world.
“Salute to chasing. Virat Kohli used to score hundreds while chasing… Babar Azam has reiterated it. Babar’s class is far better than anyone else in this world because of his elegance and shot selection. When he strikes The rate goes from 150 to above 160, he becomes something else. And when he becomes something else, it is like, Pakistan wins the game,” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.
Talking about the match on Thursday, England scored 199 for 5 in 20 overs with the help of Moeen Ali’s 55 not out in 23 balls and 43 runs from 22 balls by Ben Duckett. In reply, Pakistan reached home with 10 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, the win broke Pakistan’s three-match losing streak that was extended by the Asia Cup. In the Continental event, Pakistan was defeated by Sri Lanka in back-to-back matches.
The third T20 match of the series will be played between Pakistan and England on Friday.
