Thakur was one of the people following the vehicle and hit its windshield with a bat. The six men who came on a motorcycle along with Gill and Thakur, who were both sitting in a car, hurled abuses at Yadav and his friends. Yadav then took the car to Oshiwara police station.

After this, Yadav gave a complaint against the accused. Based on the complaint, the Oshiwara police registered a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and others.
