Bangladesh rested captain Mahmudullah Riyadh and appointed wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan as the new captain for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe. The BCB chiefs announced the decision after a meeting with Mahmudullah at their headquarters in Dhaka. Mahmudullah was facing criticism for failing to motivate the team, which had lost 11 of their last 13 T20 Internationals.
BCB’s head of cricket operations Jalal Yunus told reporters, “We have been discussing his captaincy for the last few days. After talking to him, we have decided to send a new team to Zimbabwe.
“We have informed them that we have picked Noorul Hasan to lead this team,” he said.
Mahmudullah has led Bangladesh to 16 wins and 26 losses in T20Is since taking over the role in 2018.
New captain Nurul Hasan has played 33 T20 matches for Bangladesh, in which he has scored 271 runs at an average of 12.90.
He will lead Bangladesh in three T20 Internationals against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club ground on 30 July, 31 July and 2 August.
