India’s Rohan Bopanna and Ramkumar Ramanathan entered the semi-finals with impressive straight sets wins but compatriot Sania Mirza ended their respective ATP and WTA tournaments in Adelaide on Friday. Bopanna and Ramkumar beat French-Monegasque pair of Benjamin Bonzi and Hugo Nyas 6-1 6-3 in the doubles quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1st ATP 250 men’s event. However, Sania and her Ukrainian partner Nadia Kichenok endured a bad day at the office as both failed to reach the summit clash of the Adelaide International 1st WTA event.

The two fought hard, but eventually lost their doubles semifinal tie 1-6 6-2 8-10 against local favorites Ashleigh Barty and Storm Sanders in one hour and five minutes.

The unseeded Indian pair of experienced Bopanna and Ramkumar will now take on the fourth-seeded Bosnian-Mexican pair of Tomislav Brik and Santiago Gonzalez for a place in the final.

The two Indians are pairing up for the first time on an ATP tour.

If Bopanna and Ramkumar continue their good run, the two could pair up for India’s Davis Cup tie against Denmark in New Delhi in March.

Adelaide’s two competitions are tune-up tournaments for the Australian Open starting January 17 in Melbourne.
