New Zealand spinner Ejaz Patel said on Saturday that the stars aligned for him to take all 10 Test wickets in a single innings against India at the Wankhede Stadium. “A special occasion for me and not only for me but for my family. Unfortunately for me, they are not here because of COVID. Honestly, it’s surreal and it’s so special to be able to do this in my career. Stars has tied up to do it for me in Mumbai,” Ejaz told host broadcaster Star Sports. “I am also in very good company with Kumble sir. Obviously not a good start for us, but we have some boys in the shed and have scored some runs,” he added.

Ejaz Patel on Saturday became the third bowler in the history of the game to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings. He achieved this feat against India in the ongoing second Test match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Patel returned with figures of 10-119 and as a result, India were bowled out for 325 in the first innings. Mayank Agarwal played the highest innings of 150 runs.

As Ijaz took his tenth wicket, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin too stood up to give a standing ovation to the Kiwi spinner, recognizing this remarkable feat.
