Richie Berrington was in top form as Scotland beat Papua New Guinea by 17 runs in Group B Round 1 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 at the Al Amarat Cricket Ground on Tuesday. The 34-year-old smashed 70 off 49 balls and took a brilliant catch while chasing Papua New Guinea’s target. Josh Davey sent a full ball to batsman Simon Atai on the last ball of the sixth over. Atai tries to go for a smashing drive but slips it to the point where Berrington takes a brilliant one-handed catch. ICC shared the highlight on their social media handle and captioned it as, “Richie Berrington, not satisfied with just impressing with the bat, decides to give us a masterclass on the field too”.

Initially Scotland won the toss and decided to bat first. Berrington’s flamboyant innings helped his team post 165 for nine in 20 overs. Matthew Cross also made a remarkable contribution with his knock of 45 runs in 36 balls.

For Papua New Guinea, Kabua Morea took four wickets in four overs but gave away 31 runs.

Chasing a target of 166, Papua New Guinea were all out for 148 in 19.3 overs, with Josh Davey taking four wickets in 3.3 overs. Davy conceded only 18 runs.

Norman Vanua played a fine innings for his side, scoring 47 runs in 37 balls.

With this win, Scotland now top Group B while Papua New Guinea are relegated with one match to play in the Group.
