Ahead of Team India’s T20 World Cup opener on Sunday, former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif gave his verdict on the upcoming Super 12 fixture. Speaking through Khaleej Times, Latif said that his country can win only if India makes a lot of mistakes on the field. The two sides will face each other at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday and look to start their respective campaigns with a win. He said, ‘I think no matter how well Pakistan plays, it will be difficult for Pakistan to win matches if Indian players do not make mistakes.
“When I captained Pakistan, I always tried to remove errors from the opposition. Of course, you have to do your job first, but at the same time, it’s important to make mistakes from the other team. So, it’s not just about Whether it is technique or skill, it is about strategy. You have to perfect your strategy and try to make the other team make mistakes”, he added.
The 52-year-old also pointed out that Virat Kohli could be more prone to make mistakes due to the presence of multiple options for his playing XI. He said, ‘We have to see what Virat does if he wins the toss and with what combination he will play.
“Will he play the role of Suryakumar Yadav? Or Ishan Kishan? Then you also have to see which spinner he will play. There are Varun Chakraborty, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. So the captain is likely to make a mistake in terms of picking. Correct players because you have a lot of options”, he also said.
After losing the last 12 matches, Pakistan is yet to beat India in the World Cup. This includes five defeats in the T20 World Cup.
