India beat Australia by six wickets in the second Test to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Speaking to the media at the press conference, Rohit pledged his support to ‘talented players’ like KL Rahul, suggesting that those with such potential would be given a long rope by the team management.
He said, ‘There has been a lot of talk about his batting in recent times. For us, as the team management, we always look at the potential of any individual, not just KL. I have been asked about a lot of players in the past. If a person has the ability, he will get a long run. Not only KL. If you look at the two hundreds that he scored, especially at Lord’s, batting on that damp pitch. Centurion was another victory. Both came to India after winning both the games. He has that ability,” Rohit said at the press conference on Sunday.
Talking about the team management’s communication with Rahul, Rohit said the message for the batsman was to do what he can do best. The India skipper also highlighted Rahul’s innings in England and South Africa as he stressed on the quality of the batsman.
“Obviously, of late, there has been a lot of conversation. But, from our side, it was clear that we want him to go out and play his game and do what he does best, which is what we’ve seen over the years.
“Obviously, when you are playing on pitches like this, you need to find your way of scoring runs. As I said, different individuals are part of these teams and they will have different ways of scoring runs. Find your own ways to do this. We are not going to see what one person is doing, but what the whole team is doing. It’s an important series for us, a big one and that’s my thought on KL,” concluded Rohit.
