14-year-old Mumal Mehar from a small village near Barmer in Rajasthan has taken social media by storm. A video of a youngster batting brilliantly with a wide range of shots has been widely shared on social media. Even the great Sachin Tendulkar was impressed and shared the video from his Twitter account with a special caption: “Only yesterday the auction happened.. and today the match also started? What is the matter?, (Yesterday was the Women’s Premier League auction and the match has already started. Impressive) Really enjoyed your batting. #CricketTwitter #WPL @wplt20,” he tweeted.

Mumal rarely ventured out of her village Kanasar. When she was informed about the Indian cricket legend’s tweet, she shyly thanked the Little Master. “I don’t have a field to play on, so I play on the sand,” she told reporters. She also said that she idolises India batsman Suryakumar Yadav and tries to hit ‘long shots’ like him.
The teenager, studying in class VIII, has six sisters and two brothers. She often helps with the household chores, and even takes the goats out for grazing. But in her spare time she plays cricket, that too barefoot. Though she doesn’t have any proper equipment, Moomal plays with passion. Her talent was noticed by Roshan Khan, a local school teacher, who started coaching her.
Coached by Roshan Khan, Moomal and some other girls from the village did well in the recent Rural Olympics in Rajasthan. His performances for the cricket team were noticed at the district level.
Moomal’s father is a poor farmer and cannot help financially to realize his dreams as a cricketer. However, after watching his video, BJP state president Satish Poonia sent him a cricket kit.

When asked about her dream, the soft-spoken teenager said: “I want to play for India”.
