After much waiting, the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League is finally underway. A match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants was the curtain raiser of the tournament and a total of four matches have been played so far. As expected the T20 tournament has stunned the spectators with its level of cricket so far. From impressive innings by Harmanpreet Kaur and match-winning innings by Grace Harris to five-wicket hauls by Tara Norris and Kim Garth, cricket fans are in for some amazing performances in the ongoing WPL.

As WPL fever rises, Bollywood actress Saiyami Kher took to Twitter to describe the tournament as a “personal victory”. He uploaded a video of his batting in the nets and expressed his desire to play in the tournament next year.

“I played every sport possible in school, except the gentleman’s game. From gathering 11 girls to building a team, watching the WPL today feels like a personal victory. Maybe, I’ll be able to fulfill my childhood dream.” I can try and get selected next year.” I am not shooting. #WPL2023,” wrote Saiyami.

“Wonderful shots,” commented former cricketer and commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan. “Auction for 2024. Come on!” wrote another user.

“It’s really amazing!” and “What a great position Saiyami! That’s straight and on drive” were other comments.

There will be a total of 20 league matches between the five teams of WPL, of which the last match will take place on the night of March 21.

While the table-toppers will directly qualify for the finals of the event, the second and third-placed teams will play an eliminator on March 24. The winner of the game will face the table-topper in the final on March 26.
