“When A Big Player Passes On…”: Babar Azam Reacts To Ricky Ponting’s “There’s Room For Improvement” Comment
[ad_1]

Pakistan captain Babar Azam said it was an honor to listen to Australian great Ricky Ponting’s recent claim that the Pakistan batsman is in the best form with the bat and is still ahead of him as a captain. Ponting was full of praise for Babar when he spoke on a recent episode of ICC Review, stating that the Pakistan captain was capable of breaking even more records during the rest of his career.
“I think there is still a bit of improvement left in Babar, which is a very scary thought with having been able to do so much in all three formats over the last three, four years. I love watching him play. I think there is some room for improvement, hopefully we will see it,” Ponting said after Babar won the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy for the ICC Cricketer of the Year for the first time and the ODI Cricketer of the Year for the second year in a row.
Babar said it was thrilling to hear what Ponting had to say and it would give him more confidence.
“When a great player praises you, your confidence grows and you try to be better. When such a big player makes a positive comment, it gives you a confidence boost and it gets in your head that so big The player is talking good things about you.” Babar told ICC Digital.
“Because these players have been through a similar phase, so they know what my mindset is. They have been through similar scenarios and have knowledge of the game. So yeah, I try to take these comments in a positive way and I try to give my best.” ,” He added.
With the team led by Babar, Pakistan reached the semi-finals of the second consecutive T20 World Cup. Ponting feels that Babar will continue to learn and grow as a captain.
Ponting said in January, “I must admit he looked a bit nervous at times in the T20 World Cup, certainly the game against India when things got very tight at the end.”
“You can see some of the senior players, especially Shadab Khan, going to him and trying to settle him down and just thinking of clearing him up a bit. But it’s a T20 game . Being the captain of a T20 team is not an easy job to do, especially in the World Cup, and especially at a moment that was so huge when things were getting really tight. I’m sure he has a bit more experience under his belt The way he has batted, I am sure he will find the right way to lead and become a very successful Pakistan captain.”
When questioned about his leadership style, Babar said that he focuses on getting the best out of his teammates.
“My (captaincy) style is that you have to be honest with your decisions. Play the best team for Pakistan and go with the right players. When you are on the field, you have to give confidence to your players. The more you The better you can get out of them. What a player is thinking and how you can keep him in his comfort zone, that’s what matters to me,” Babar said.
When required, Babar is also comfortable working with and consulting his teammates, naming Imam-ul-Haq, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Rizwan, as he is often off the field.
“The good thing about us is that we are all united. It is a plus point for our team. When someone is down, he will already have a player to support him. It helps us as a team. It is a positive sign for us. It has been five or six years now. We have been playing together so we know each other’s temperament and mindset. Whenever such a situation arises, we hug each other and assure himself,” said Babur.
