Gujarat Giants suffered a major blow after West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin was ruled out of WPL 2023 ahead of their first match of their campaign against Mumbai Indians. Dottin is recovering from a medical condition and is yet to regain his fitness. Dottin was bought by the Giants in the auction for Rs 60 lakhs after the bidding started at Rs 50 lakhs.
Australian Kim Garth has been included in the team in his place. The right-handed batsman went unsold in the auction last month. She was part of the Australian team that won the T20 World Cup in South Africa at the time of the auction.

Garth played only two warm-up games before the World Cup, one against his previous team, Ireland. After completing the legal paperwork, she moved to Australia and signed a three-year contract with the Melbourne Stars in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). She joined the Giants’ practice squad on Friday.
The Giants will face Mumbai Indians in the first match of the WPL on Saturday night at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. They will be led by Australia’s Beth Mooney, who was named player of the match for her unbeaten 74 off 53 balls in the World Cup final.
During the 22-game season, each of the five teams will face each other twice before two semifinals determine the top two teams for the March 27 championship game. In its inaugural edition, five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriors – spent their money to acquire some of the best talent in the international and domestic circuit.
Full squad of Gujarat Giants: Beth Mooney (c), Ashley Gardner, Sophia Dunkley, Annabel Sutherland, Harleen Deol, Kim Garth, Sneh Rana, S Meghana, Georgia Wareham, Manasi Joshi, D Hemlata, Monica Patel, Tanuja Kanwar, Sushma Verma, Hurley Gala, Ashwini Kumari , Parunika Sisodia and Shabnam Shakeel.
