Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Virat Singh’s unbeaten ton fire Jharkhand to win over Assam

Jharkhand registered their first win of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on the second campus ground of Jadavpur University on Thursday on the back of Virat Singh’s unbeaten century innings. Despite losing their opening batsman in the first over, Jharkhand defeated Assam by 51 runs in a one-sided match. To bat first, Jharkhand scored an unbeaten 53 off Virat’s 103 balls and scored 233/3 thanks to Saurabh Tiwari’s 57-run knock, while Assam also scored 28 runs off 38 balls from Ryan Parag, But in the end remained limited to 182/7.


Batting first, Jharkhand suffered an early setback as they lost opener Anand Singh on the second ball of the match. After this Virat shared 81 and 114 runs with captain Ishan (24) and Saurabh, and led the team to a big score.

Virat hit 12 fours and 3 sixes for his century, while Kumar Devabrata scored 31 runs in 12 balls.

Pallavkumar Das (46) and Aryan also lost their opener Rishav Das early in the chase for Assam and struggled vigorously to stop Shire but could not succeed in the face of the disciplined Jharkhand bowling attack. Monu Kumar took 3 wickets for the winning team.

Meanwhile, Bengal are invincible in the showpiece event to win their third match when they play the Horns with Hyderabad in the third match of the tournament on Thursday.


Bengal got the better of Jharkhand on Tuesday when Vivek Singh, in a fine field innings, ensured full points for his team at the Eden Gardens in the shortest format.

Batting first, Bengal scored 161 for six wickets. 162 was needed for the win, Jharkhand scored 145 runs for 9 wickets to win Bengal by 16 runs.
