Fans present for the sixth day of the World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton had moments to cherish as the top two teams of the Championship battled for the coveted title. An India fan cheering his side experienced a full circle of emotions as they went from joy to despair within seconds corresponding to the action on the field. The International Cricket Council (ICC) posted a video on its social media channels, which showed the India fan going from an excited state to a sad state as Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed in the second innings.
Rahane was strangled on the leg-side by Trent Boult for 15 as India were bowled out for 170 in their second innings.
Boult took 3 for 39 for Rishabh Pant and R Ashwin, but the bowlers’ choice for New Zealand was Tim Southee, who took 4 for 48.
Kyle Jamieson continued to impress as he dismissed India captain Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara in the first session of Reserve Day.
Rishabh Pant’s measured knock of 41 runs and Rohit Sharma’s 30 at the top of the order helped India take a 138-run lead in the second innings.
The match was extended to a reserve day as all five regular games were affected by rain and poor light, with a further four days washed out due to rain.
