BookMyShow has now launched BookMyShow Stream – a new video-on-demand streaming platform. This marks the transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) segment of the online ticketing platform as the COVID-19 epidemic affects the entertainment business. Through this platform, users will be able to buy or rent movies, including recent blockbusters that are still in theaters. Movies on new platforms such as Wonder Woman and Tenet are available on HBO Go in the US, but not in other markets, so BookMyShow can be a way to access these movies without going to the stream theater.
BookMyShow Stream provides over 600 movie titles and 72,000+ hours of content, which users can buy or rent online and watch. The stage will also have several marquee premieres every Friday. This new online service is a move of BookMyShow’s strategic business to remain relevant in these changing times.
Until theaters and cinema halls can run at full capacity, and distributors can make more dramatic releases in the country, BookMyShow Stream’s video-on-demand streaming service offers some relief. New titles such as Tencet, Wonder Woman 1984, Yes God Yes, The Craft: Legacy can now be purchased or rented at different prices. If you buy the title of a film or TV show, you can watch the movie anytime after purchase. However, if you rent it, which costs a little less, you will have the convenience of streaming the title for 30 days, but will only have two days to watch it once playback begins. Video streaming quality is listed to be in HD. Different films and TV shows are listed at different prices – Wonder Woman 1984, for example, Rs. 549 rent or Rs. 799 to buy, yes, God, yes Rs. 269 rent or Rs. 549 to buy.
BookMyShow Stream, the company says, features a hands-on, specially curated library with over 22,000 hours of content exclusive to the platform for launch. The stage will offer services such as Friday premieres, exclusives, world cinema, theaters missed, festival favorites, and dedicated bundles that provide multiple titles simultaneously. The BookMyShow stream will be available to watch on Apple TV, Android TV, Fire Stick and Chromecast as well as BookMyShow’s mobile app and website. The BookMyShow stream will give users access to features such as download, offline viewing and casting.
The company has partnered with Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures for international content. It has joined hands with leading Indian production houses such as Viacom 18, Shemaroo, Rajshree Productions, Divo, and Silimonx to provide a wide variety of content to BookMyShow stream users. BookMyShow Stream is said to be one of the first Indian streaming platforms to host content sourced from independent film distributors such as PictureWorks, Superfine Films, Impact Films, Kahwa Entertainment and VR Films. Materials from international film festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, Venice Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival will also be made available for purchase or rental.
