Italian luxury fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana (D&G) has set a new record by selling non-fungible tokens (NFTs) worth around $6 million (approximately Rs 44.8 crore). The renowned fashion brand recently announced that it has auctioned a nine-piece collection of fashion-related NFTs, along with some genuine wearables, for 1,885.719 ether – which makes for $6.6 million (approximately Rs 50 crore). High-end D&G pieces from this Collezione Genesi collection were recreated as NFTs in the virtual world by UNXD, a curated marketplace for digital luxury and culture.

According to a NYT report, the Collezione Genesi collection is said to be the most complex fashion NFT ever created and offered in the Metaverse. Five of the nine D&G garments were auctioned off in their physical form as well as in digital NFT form.

These include gold and silver versions of The Dress from a Dream, as well as an ornate emerald green men’s suit called The Glass Suit and two gold-plated and gemstone-studded silver crowns – The Lion Crown and Includes The Doge Crown. Before you ask these are named after places in Venice, and have nothing to do with Dogecoin.

The remaining four pieces from the collection were fully digital NFTs, including three intricately embroidered men’s jackets and The Impossible tiara. UNXD built these NFTs using the Polygon blockchain, mimicking the drawings of D&G designers – Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

The official page of D&G teased its millions of followers on Twitter with glimpses of these strange things.

Calling this auction “the most successful digital fashion drop ever”, the fashion brand has promised that more such NFT collections will be released in the future.

Doge Crown emerged as the highest bid. The gorgeous headdress NFT with seven blue sapphires and 142 diamonds was bought by Red DAO for 423.50 ether – which was $1.25 million (approximately Rs. After a significant increase in the value of Ether in recent days, 423.50 Ether is equivalent to $1.52 million (approximately Rs 11 crore) as of Thursday, 7 September.
