Firefox Update Brings Ads to the Address Bar: How to Disable



Firefox is bringing sponsored address bar suggestions to its browser with the latest 93.0 update. This means that Mozilla will offer partner content based on your search query directly in the address bar. These ad links will appear along with all the usual search suggestions, such as browsing history, and can prove to be intrusive. The web is full of ads on every page, and adding these ads to the address bar can annoy Firefox users. Mozilla is calling this feature Firefox Suggestions and there’s an even easier way to disable it.

Firefox has updated its support page to explain more about this new Firefox Suggest feature. On the page, Firefox calls it “a feature that serves as a trusted guide to the better web, bringing out relevant information and sites to help you meet your goals.” These relevant tips come “from trusted partners based on what you’re looking for”. Traditionally, the address bar provides suggestions such as browsing history and open tabs, but if Firefox Suggest is enabled, it will also show suggestions from Mozilla’s partners.

These suggestions will not be enabled on their own. After updating to the latest version, Firefox will send you a message asking you to enable Firefox Suggestions. To enable these suggestions, a user can click ‘Allow Suggestions’ when they receive a notification prompt or ‘Customize in Settings’ to see the types of experiences and suggestions that will appear in the address bar. can select.

Mozilla has partnered with AdMarketplace to deliver sponsored results to its users. Sponsored links will appear below traditional suggestions and will be based on the keywords you type in the address bar.

How to disable Sponsored Suggestions on Firefox:

Users who have Firefox Suggestions enabled can easily disable it using the following steps.

  1. click on top menu button in firefox browser

  2. click on Settings > Privacy & Security.

  3. go down to address bar option and head Firefox Suggestions section

  4. To enable or disable contextual suggestions, select or deselect the checkbox next to Relevant suggestions.

  5. To enable or disable traditional address bar suggestions, such as suggest results from Firefox browsing history and bookmarks, select or deselect the relevant checkboxes.
