While the Apple iPhone 14 series is still a few months away from release, rumors about the iPhone 15 lineup have already started to surface. Apple is testing a prototype and component sample of a 5x telephoto lens for the iPhone 15 Pro. A final decision on who will be the producer is expected in May 2022.
According to a report by 9to5Mac, the information about the iPhone 15 Pro has been given by analyst Jeff Pu. Apple is yet to announce information about its upcoming iPhone 14 series, which is expected later this year as the successor to the company’s iPhone 13 series.
When the components are approved, they will be included in the “high-end models of the 2023 iPhone lineup,” which should mean the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The likely manufacturer of the lenses will be Lante Optics, and it is expected that 100 million units will be made for Apple alone.
Periscope lenses are not new and are already available on a handful of Android smartphones. They allow the optics combination of tall telephoto cameras to be placed horizontally and thus fit into modern slim phones.
While Android phones have embraced the technology for many years, Apple has traditionally been trying to perfect a feature before implementing it.
