To begin with, this new company will produce 4 new electric cars for global markets.
Ability to maintain dominance in the EV segment
In this, British International Investment (BII) invested 1925 crores in this Indian company. This new company is working strictly on electric vehicles with four wheels. All these developments point to Mahindra looking to take the lead in the Indian four-wheeler passenger EV segment. Tata Motors currently dominates this segment with its Tigor EV, Nexon EV and Nexon EV Max.
Tata Motors currently holds over 83 percent of the four-wheeler passenger car market, with MG lagging behind. We saw the Mahindra XUV400 Electric on test and it is expected to be launched in September 2022. Although EV technology is still young in India, electric four-wheelers are crossing 2,000 units per month, as seen in our EV sales chart.
