The Mahindra XUV700 SUV has received 1.5 lakh bookings since its launch

Mahindra and Mahindra launched their new flagship SUV XUV700 on August 15 last year. Despite growing demands, timely delivery of the SUV remains a challenge for the automaker after almost a year.

The Mahindra XUV700 SUV has achieved a major milestone since its launch in August last year. Mahindra and Mahindra announced that the XUV700 has garnered 1.5 lakh bookings so far in the first 11 months of its launch. This achievement comes a few days before the Mahindra XUV700 completes one year in the market. However, the long waiting period for delivery is one of the biggest challenges for the automaker to make the XUV700 successful over other SUVs.

Mahindra launched the xuv700 on August 15 last year at a starting and starting price of Rs.11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). However, due to the price hike in the last one year, the starting price of the XUV700 has gone up to ₹13.18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base MX petrol manual variant.

Mahindra XUV700 rocked the Indian market with huge bookings in the initial days. It took less than an hour for the first 25,000 units of the SUV to be booked. However, delivery of the XUV700 was delayed due to the ongoing supply crisis and chip shortages.

Currently, the Mahindra XUV700 has the longest waiting period among all other SUVs sold in India. Depending on the variant, the waiting period for the XUV700 could extend to around two years in some cases. Around 42,000 units of the Mahindra XUV700 have been sold till June this year. This means around one lakh customers are still waiting for the delivery of their XUV700 SUV.

However, Mahindra and Mahindra said the automaker is trying to address the issue, admitting that it is a challenge to meet the huge demands. VJ Nakra, president of the automotive division at Mahindra and Mahindra recently told HT Auto that such a long waiting period for a flagship model is an embarrassment after a point. “Any strong brand will always wait, but there’s always a fine balance between how much it waits and how much is the ability to deliver and reduce the wait,” he added.

The new XUV700 is being touted as the successor to the XUV500. It comes with a new body design, a sea of new features, safety equipment and much more. The XUV700 is the first SUV to offer ADAS features. It rivals the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and even the recently launched Kia Carens.
