WandaVision villain Agatha Harkness is back. Kathryn Hahn will reportedly reprise her role as the witch of the same name, who disguised herself as goofy neighbor Agnes for the most part on WandaVision’s Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar shows. WandaVision creator, lead writer and executive producer Jac Schaeffer will return in those capacities on the WandaVision Agatha spin-off, which is said to be a dark comedy. Hahn was a riot and a delight on WandaVision, and also contributed to the Emmy-winning earworm “Agatha All Along”. WandaVision left him alive and well, and now it’s clear why.
In the WandaVision series finale, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) decides to use her powers to trap Agatha inside Westview in order to bring her back to her “Agnes” persona. WandaVision may follow the Agatha spin-off “Agnes” as she (somehow) discovers who she is and then attempts to undo the magic that Wanda cast on her. It makes sense that Marvel would go back to Schaefer to helm the spin-off, given that WandaVision was nominated for 23 Emmys this year — and won three.
Variety first brought word of the WandaVision Agatha Harkness spin-off.
The WandaVision show will not return for a second season, however. It was envisioned as a limited series and was designed to lead into future Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Olsen is a major character in next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — the WandaVision finale post-credits scene hinted at what she’ll do. Teyona Parris, who plays Monica Rambeau, is part of The Marvels, which is due out in November 2022.
And now the future of Hahn’s character is decided. This leaves Paul Bettany’s vision. Nothing can be said as of now on what is happening with him. While Vision is technically dead, a form of him – the all-white The Vision – swam in the finale of WandaVision.
This won’t be the first spin-off of the Marvel Disney+ series we’ve heard of. Back in March, reports said Marvel Studios was also working on a spin-off Hawkeye, the upcoming Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld series premiering November 24 on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar. NS Hawkeye The spin-off – from husband-wife duo Eaton and Emily Cohen – centers on Echo / Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), the first Native American superhero from the MCU to be introduced in the Marvel Disney+ series.
