POCSO court sentenced rape defendant to 10 years in rigorous imprisonment

Ghaziabad, Aug 18 (PTI) A POCSO court in Ghaziabad district, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday sentenced Annu Sharma, convicted of raping a minor in 2018, to 10 years in rigorous imprisonment and sentenced him to also imposed a fine of 50,000 rupees. Special Prosecutor Sanjay Bakharwa told PTI that Special Judge Sangeeta Kumari also recommended a grant of Rs one lakh from the Uttar Pradesh government program under the rules. The victim’s father had alleged in his complaint that Annu Sharma was in the company of his 17-year-old daughter on November 18, 2018.

The victim’s father had alleged in his complaint that on November 18, 2018, his 17-year-old daughter was raped by a person named Annu Sharma in Modi Nagar.

The girl then informed her family of the incident. A case has been registered in this regard under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, POCSO and SC/ST Act and the hearing of the case commenced on 2nd March 2019.
