Damascus, Syria:

An Israeli missile attack on an air base in central Syria injured six Syrian service personnel on Friday, state media reported.

“At 9 p.m. (1800 GMT), the Israeli enemy … fired a volley of missiles towards the T4 military air base,” the official Sanaa news agency said.

“The aggression injured six soldiers and caused some material damage,” it said.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the attack targeted a drone depot at the base.

When contacted by AFP, an Israeli military spokesman said the military did not comment on foreign media reports.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War in 2011, Israel has regularly conducted air strikes inside Syria, targeting mostly Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces as well as Syrian government troops.

Israel’s military rarely admits to personal attacks but has repeatedly said it will not allow Syria to become a stronghold for its arch enemy Iran.
