Prosecutors said French authorities took a woman’s body for questioning on Thursday after it was found at her home in the southern resort of Agade.
The public prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the body of the 77-year-old woman was found on Wednesday evening after her son expressed concern that he was unable to contact her over the telephone.
Prosecutor Rafael Bland told AFP that a man had been held for questioning.
“This is a 51-year-old man who knew the victim,” Bland said.
His son had said that he was connected to his house through a video link and had seen a shadow on the ground.
According to a source, the retired teacher’s head was on a table next to the body. There was no sign of entry, the outside gate was closed and the main door of the house was open.
