Bangladesh Man in Lungi, Denied Movie Ticket, Claims Video. multiplex clarifies

Star Cineplex, part of leading multiplex chain in Bangladesh, has issued a clarification after a video circulated on social media which claimed that an elderly man was denied ticket to its multiplex because he was wearing a lungi. This video that surfaced on Wednesday went viral in no time. The person seen in the video has been identified as Saman Ali Sarkar. He was quoted as saying that he had gone to see a Star Cineplex theater in Dhaka’s Sony Square branch”poran“But the ticket was denied, according to Dhaka Tribune,

Cineplex clarified on its official Facebook page that it does not discriminate against customers based on anything.

“We would like to clarify that Star Cineplex does not discriminate against customers on the basis of anything, not least on the basis of the dress of an individual. There are no policies in our organization that allow an individual to purchase a ticket. We would like to emphasize that everyone is welcome to experience their favorite movies at our cinema halls,” Star Cineplex said in a Facebook post.

It further said, “The incident being circulated through social media is the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding. We are deeply shocked to see such an incident and are grateful to the parties concerned for bringing it to our notice.”

The cinema hall later invited Mr. Sarkar and his family to watch the film at the same multiplex and posted the pictures on its Facebook page. One of the stars of ‘Sariful Raaz’poran“, also went to the theater with Mr. Sarkar and his family and watched the film with them.

In the viral video, the man is heard saying that the theater staff refused to sell him tickets because he was wearing a lungi. Dhaka Tribune,
