The Center on Monday said it is closely monitoring developments in Kazakhstan and is expecting the situation to stabilize at the earliest.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said coordination with the authorities has helped in ensuring the safety of Indian citizens in that country.
“India is closely monitoring the recent developments in Kazakhstan. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the innocent victims killed in the violence,” he said.
“As a close and friendly partner of Kazakhstan, we look forward to a speedy stabilization of the situation,” Bagchi said.
Kazakhstan is witnessing widespread violence after protests initially triggered by a hike in fuel prices.
According to reports, more than 160 people were killed in the violence.
“Coordination with the authorities has helped in ensuring the safety of Indian nationals. They are advised to follow local security instructions and contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance,” Bagchi said.
