Joe Biden Reinstates National Monument Preserve, Undermining Donald Trump-era Policy

Three national American monuments will receive their protected status as part of the Joe Biden Restoration Policy.

Washington:

Three national American monuments will be restored to their protected status Friday, continuing Joe Biden’s efforts to roll back the environmental policies of his predecessor.

Under Donald Trump protections around natural areas – often home to endangered species or archaeological sites – have been rolled back, angering conservationists and Native American communities.

“President Biden will sign three proclamations restoring security for Bears Ears, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and Northeast Canyon and Seamounts National Monuments,” the White House said Thursday.

After Trump cut about 45 percent of his land in 2017, Utah’s Grand Staircase-Escalante will return to its original size of 1.87 million acres. Bears Ears will indeed expand under Biden’s plans.

In marine areas – the Northeast Valley and Frontier – the capture of red crabs and American lobsters will gradually decrease under the new fishing protections until the practice is banned there from September 2023.

US media reported that Biden would sign the orders on Friday.

The area is home to over 100,000 archaeological sites, including rock art dating back at least 5,000 years and the remains of 21 previously unknown dinosaur species.
