The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has once again suspended the license of ARY News for airing the speech clip of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former prime minister Imran Khan, which was earlier banned by the regulatory body. was banned. Don reported.
Interestingly, this is the third time that the broadcast and re-telecast of Mr Khan’s speeches and press conferences have been banned after he lashed out at former Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa. Incidentally, the license of ARY News was also canceled for the second time.
According to PEMRA, the broadcast of “baseless allegations, hateful, defamatory and unwarranted statements” against state institutions and officials was in blatant violation of Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan and a judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan passed in a suo moto case. ,
PEMRA issued an order on suspension of license of ARY News and said, “It is also clear that Senior Executive Vice President Ammad Yusuf shared the order of PEMRA on his Twitter account at 8:26 pm.”
“In view of the foregoing, in exercise of the powers vested in Section 30(3) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007, the competent authority i.e. the Chairman, PEMRA, hereby suspends the broadcast satellite TV channel license which M/ARY Communications Limited (ARY News) with immediate effect until further orders.
Earlier, PEMRA issued a statement saying, ‘It has been observed that Imran Khan [Chairman PTI] is continuously accusing the State institutions by making baseless allegations in his speeches/statements and spreading hate speech against the State institutions and officials through his inflammatory statements, which is prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order and disturbing public peace and tranquility likely to break.”
The Authority further said that after analyzing the content of Imran’s speech, it is observed that the content was broadcast live by the licensees without effective time delay mechanism which is in violation of provisions of PEMRA laws and judgments passed by courts. There is disobedience.
