London:

Britain’s Prince Harry was allowed to challenge the UK government’s decision on his security arrangements in court, a High Court ruling showed on Friday.

Harry, who moved to the United States with his wife Meghan two years ago, is challenging the decision to stop receiving police protection while in Britain, even if he himself covers the cost.

The decision was made in early 2020 by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalties and Public Figures, on behalf of the Home Office, the ministry responsible for policing, immigration and security.

A British High Court judge allowed for part of Harry’s claim for judicial review of the decision. Judicial review involves a judge who examines the validity of the decision of a public body.

Harry was granted permission to apply for judicial review on several different grounds, though not all of those sought by the prince’s legal team, the decision published on the court’s website showed.

Harry’s legal representative was not immediately available for comment. The Home Office did not immediately comment.

Earlier this month, lawyers for Queen Elizabeth’s grandson Prince Harry argued in court that the royal family should not have been involved in Britain’s decision to deny him police protection in the UK.
