Kabul:

Taliban has launched an operation to root out ISIS from Afghanistan.

Sputnik was quoted as saying by the Afghan Khama Press news agency that the Taliban would act on the local branch of ISIS in the capital region of Kabul and neighboring Nangarhar on the border with Pakistan in the east.

The operation took place after two weeks of bloodshed in Jalalabad, the main city of Nangarhar. Several fighters and civilians were killed in at least three gun and bomb attacks on Taliban positions.

The Taliban came to power in mid-August amid a chaotic withdrawal of foreign troops, but clashed with ISIS, which has been operating from Nangarhar for years.

ISIS claimed the August 26 attack on Kabul airport killed more than 100 people, including 13 US personnel.
