UN Chief Antonio Guterres “Hope To Be Right” UN Chief “Convinced” Russia Will Not Invade Ukraine

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was confident an attack would not happen.

United Nations:

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Friday that the Russian invasion of Ukraine would be against international law and said he believed it would not happen.

“There should be no military intervention. In this context, I think diplomacy is the way to solve problems,” Guterres told reporters.

“I am sure this will not happen and I sincerely hope to be correct,” he said.

Guterres will ignore discussions between US and Russian diplomats seeking to de-escalate the conflict.

“Any aggression by one country on another is against international law,” he said.

Guterres said the United Nations has not been a part of talks on Ukraine that involve the United States and its NATO allies on the one hand and Russia on the other.

But he said his offices are “permanently available” to help ease tensions.

To avoid a military conflict, he said, “I only believe that we must find a diplomatic solution.”
